Countable nouns are things you can count, like one apple, two apples. They have singular and plural forms and can be used with numbers. Uncountable nouns are things you cannot count individually, like water ou information. They usually have only one form and do not take numbers directly. We use different words to talk about quantities for each type. For countable nouns, we can say an apple ou many apples. For uncountable nouns, we cannot say a water; instead, we say some water ou much water. This basic distinction is very important for A1 English learners. It helps you use articles (a/an, the) and quantifiers (some, any, much, many) correctly, making your sentences clear and natural.

Questions fréquemment posées

Can I make an uncountable noun countable?

Yes, you can use words like a piece of, a slice of, a bottle of, ou a cup of. For example, a glass of water ou a slice of bread.

Is 'fruit' countable or uncountable?

Generally, fruit is uncountable when you talk about it in general, like I like fruit. However, when talking about different types of fruit, it can be countable, like There are many fruits in the market.

Why is 'money' uncountable?

Money is an abstract concept. We don't count 'moneys'. We count units of money, like dollars, euros, ou coins. So, we say How much money? pas How many money?

What about 'food'?

Similar to fruit, food is generally uncountable when talking about it in general, like I need some food. If you mean different types of food, it can sometimes be countable, but this is less common for A1 learners.
